I wasn't thrilled with the addition of Louisville..

I'd rather have UConn (a land-grant university) than BC any day. IMHO, the ACC was desperate when they added Louisville. Some on this board said that U of L's academic rankings would improve, but they haven't. U of L was exposed for the "win at all costs" attitude with all their recent scandals. FSU and Clemson wanted them. Before Maryland departed for the B1G, the last six additions were Virginia Tech, Miami, Boston College, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and Notre Dame. Only one of those six additions was a true state university (since Pitt is a public-private university). The other four were private universities which was the original intent of ACC expansion in the early 2000's before allowing Tech to join. Not only did BC not want UConn in the ACC, but the mindset of the ACC before Maryland's departure was to add highly rated academic private schools. Duke, Wake and the ACC public Ivies favored private universities over state universities. For sixty years, the ACC required that only academically sound institutions be considered for membership. That's one of the reasons Virginia Tech wasn't accepted. Schools like Duke and UNC looked down on Tech. The ACC already had enough land-grant schools with NC State, Clemson, and Maryland and the hell if they were going to add a land-grant university located in the mountains of southwest Virginia. That was the ACC's mentality until they finally were pressured to add Tech. Then the ACC did a complete 180 and added what many consider to be an urban commuter campus in Louisville. Some say that FSU and Clemson threatened to leave if the ACC added another basketball-first northern school. They both wanted Louisville and out of desperation and fear, the ACC added U of L. I was surprised and disappointed by the ACC's decision. I was almost 100% certain that UConn would replace Maryland. Both were state land-grant institutions and both were good at men's and women's basketball. UConn would have given all of New England to the ACC. Now that the ACC has added Louisville, they can't make any excuses concerning academics if or when West Virginia wants to be considered for membership. UConn's best hope is to become relevant in football. That will be almost an impossible task being a football independent. Everyone knows that football drives Power-5 membership. In a perfect world, it would be nice to simply replace a school like Wake Forest with UConn, but we all know Wake will always be a member of the ACC.
